Workshops

As humans, we are part of a wider ‘ecosystem’ which includes the people, places and living world around us. Working creatively in a group of people can be an amazing way to connect to others and really appreciate who we are and all we have to offer.

Coming together with others often gives us new perspectives, helps us to develop empathy and curiosity, and encourages us to find new ways to communicate more creatively.

I have many years’ experience of facilitating groups, mainly based around narrative therapy and creative arts methods. Read on for my current offerings.

Tree of Life

Creative Arts 8-Week Workshop

The Tree of Life is a narrative therapy resource which uses the motif of a tree as a way to tell (and draw!) your life story as part of a group. It is strengths-based, enabling you to draw on past experiences, discover hidden parts of yourself and your values, and think imaginatively about where you want your life to go. This time around I’m basing the Workshop at an arts studio, so we’ll have access to a huge variety of arts materials and you’ll come away with a large (A2 or A1) tree-shaped visual representation of your life story!

No need to have any previous arts skills- this is experiential, fun, interactive, and all about finding ways to express what is most important to you. I’ll provide prompts each week for you to gather your ideas between sessions, with plenty of practical exercises, sharing time and reflective space. Come and join us for an incredible journey of discovery, as part of a lovely and supportive group of people!

Session dates:

Poetry to connect

“There is a place where you will find that you are not alone, that your story is not the only story. That we are all part of the same verse, the universe of words. That poetry heals and makes us whole. Come, we’ve been waiting for you”.

Richard Brown

Poetry in both its written and spoken form can be used to facilitate healing, growth and transformation. As part of a group, we come together to connect with common emotions, themes and ideas as well as finding our own unique voice.

These workshops span a range of topics and ideas, allowing us to dive in to different emotions and experiences, experiment with various voices and feel the deep connection that comes with sharing (or just listening to others!) our words in a group.

Each workshop lasts 2-2.5 hours. There is a chance to listen and respond to a piece of poetry (sometimes two), reflect on the emotions, pictures or ideas it evokes, make our own responses to poetry prompts and share our poems with the group if we wish. I will also provide some reflective writing prompts for you to use at home and continue your poetry journey.

This is a facilitated group for reflective practice – the focus is on healing through words rather than crafting an award-winning piece (although you never know, you may do both!). Please bring something you will enjoy writing on/with (although I can provide notebooks and pens/pencils if needed, often people like to choose their own writing materials).

Previous topics have included:

Change and Transformation

Earth, Sea, Sky

Grief stories

Acceptance and Letting Go
